Our Story

For more than 41 years, Lee Baker has devoted his career to helping people move, recover, and rediscover independence. As a physical therapist specializing in neurological conditions—including stroke, limb loss, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and multiple sclerosis—Lee has worked with individuals facing some of the most complex physical challenges imaginable. His work has spanned from rehabilitation centers in the United States to the Himalayas of Nepal, where he supported primary healthcare and community development.

Throughout his career, Lee has loved what he does—but one persistent gap in care became impossible to ignore.

The Problem We Saw

Again and again, we watched patients make real, meaningful progress in therapy—only to lose access when insurance benefits or allotted visits ran out. Just as people were gaining strength, confidence, and momentum, they were left without a place to go.

For a therapist, that moment is devastating. Recovery doesn’t stop when coverage ends, and neither should care. That unanswered question, “What happens next?”, became the driving force behind what would become Therapy & Beyond.

Our Vision

Therapy & Beyond was created to ensure that no one with a neurological condition is left without support simply because resources run out. The organization exists to provide access to safe, challenging, and meaningful exercise opportunities for people who want and need to keep moving.

But the vision goes beyond exercise. It’s about community. It’s about bringing together people who understand one another’s experiences, whether that’s training side by side, hiking in Shenandoah National Park, sharing a meal, or simply knowing you’re not alone in the journey.

Therapy & Beyond focuses on three core areas

Access to Exercise: Helping individuals afford ongoing, neurologically informed exercise programs so that no one is excluded due to financial barriers.

Education & Expertise:

Bringing in world-class speakers and neuroscientists to educate therapists, caregivers, families, and participants on the latest thinking in neurological care.

Connection & Collaboration: Building partnerships with other organizations and agencies to ensure the highest quality of care from the moment of diagnosis through every stage that follows.
